Latest fishing report out of the Two Rivers Harbor

For the first time this year I have to report the fishing action off Two Rivers WI as very good to excellent. It might be short lived, but we'll take it after such an up and down season.

For the past 4 weeks the surface water temperature remained steady around 53 to 58 degrees from the shoreline to 200 feet of water, which really scattered our fish. Last weekend we had a good north blow for 3 days which pumped in tons of warm water into the shoreline, up to 68 degrees. This pushed the fish offshore but where?

This past Monday we headed out and decided to take a chance and set up in 95 feet of water. We set right on top of them! Doubles and triples kept us busy for the first two hours and ended up with a limit catch of 15 kings up to 18 pounds. Tuesday it blew, and Wednesday the 26th, it was the same as Monday but we had four people and sent them home with 18 kings and 2 lakers.

We worked 80 to 160 feet of water concentrating on the bottom 1/3 of the water column. Fish them deep and slow down your presentation 2.4 MPH seemed to work.

Best baits for us in spoons were Moonshine products. Their glow bloody nose, shockwave, bad tad and snack attack were deadly.

As for flashers, Bechhold and Son took center stage. Last year they came out with a new product called Daisy Chains. It's a series of 3 fish shaped mini flashers in a line and put your favorite spoon or fly behind. We tried this with minimal success. Then the owner Jerry Bechhold called and said try this-- take one spinner off the set, run them 18 inches ahead of an 8 or 11 inch Bechhold flasher, then your fly. WOW, what a change. If this combination keeps working like it has, they might outlaw this set up in Wisconsin.

Check out their entire line on my web site www.coolcitycharters.homestead.com under lures used.
